“Willie White’s Boyhood Home: El Dorado”

“Willie White’s Boyhood Home: El Dorado” will be presented on Saturday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. on the grounds of Red Rocks State Historic Site, 927 Exchange Street. Presenter Lisa Soller is deputy director of the Lyon County History Center.

William Allen White was born in Emporia on February 10, 1868. When White was one year of age his parents, Dr. Allen and Mary Ann Hatten White, relocated to El Dorado, Kansas. The family operated a boarding house they called The White House. Dr. White would become mayor. Mrs. White would help found the public library. As a teenager, W. A. White would begin working for Thomas Benton Murdock’s newspaper.

The Saturday at the Site programs are free, and the public is invited to attend. Donations in support of the site are always appreciated.
